(2008) [pablo] uh.. a single screenshot won't do it... please add a better description such as gameplay controls and stuff... thanks...
(2008) [John] I assume you mean on the App description page? Thanks for your feedback, I'll update it as soon as possible. :)
(2008) [f e a r l e s s] A video would be nice, too! :)
(2008) [cookies] Yes, the App is only a buck, but we're limited on how many app icons we can have... so yeah... You can just download them when you want to use them, but that's a pain in the butt. Video please. Thanks...
(2008) [John] A list of features as well as a list of the game's controls have been added to the App Store description.
(2008) [Patrick] Anywhere we can see a video of this app in action?
(2008) [f e a r l e s s] Ok, I decided to get this game because it looks cool. Graphics are amazing! (What do you call these type of graphics?) Game play is pretty fun. The game does need some kind of powerup to clear the screen or take out a lot of enemies. Sound would be a nice addition!
(2008) [Finchypoo] LOVE the game, great controls, awesome graphics and buttery smooth framerate. I'm totally addicted. As wonderful as it is its just begging for some powerups, nothing major, maybe spreadshot and laser or something, and a touch to detonate bomb to eliminate enemies within a certain radius. Oh yea, if you could add online scores it would make my day, I got to Level 36, I want to know how well everyone else is doing. Keep it up, this game rocks, I'm spreading the word to anyone I know with an iPhone.
(2008) [Sebastien] translate your game in french please!!! you can call dys translations: http://www.dystranslations.com
(2008) [John] fearless: I love the graphics, too. :) It was a lot of fun making the game. I think I'd like to call the art style "simple", or "oldschool" - like the vector art of yesteryear, or like a coloured, high-resolution version of the original pong...
(2008) [John] Finchypoo: would you mind reviewing my game with that text? :) And level 36? you're a machine! As the developer, I've only ever gotten to level 57.
(2008) [John] sebastien: sorry it's not in french yet - I'll put that on my TODO list. :) I figure it's pretty understandable though - in the UI, anything bad that you can do is red, and anything good is green... but I guess you could be colourblind... :(
(2008) [Finchypoo] I actually already reviewed the game with about the same text, although looking at it now its really written better here, I updated the review for ya. As for level 36, I lucked out and encountered only one "boss who launches side to side centipede things at you" and never encountered the "boss who launches those balls with antennae that shoot sperm at you" Those two get me all the time. I really like that the levels are random so you wont always encounter big nasty boss on level 12 that kills you every time. Geometry wars was like that and I really loved it.
(2008) [John] Those two levels are totally beatable. :) Of course, I'm the developer, so I can say things like that with a couple of weeks of practice playing the game continuously... but yeah, there's a definite strategy, and it takes a good aim and a steady hand even when you've figured it out. :p
(2008) [John] Oh, and I think my level 57 run included at least three of the centipede bosses, and at least two of the other one. I actually got bogged down on one of the plain old you're-in-the-centre levels.
(2008) [Finchypoo] my 36 run actually ended on a regular portrait mode planet at the bottom level with no bosses, I stupidly concentrated on some distant strong enemies when I only have a small population left and got overwhelmed. I can beat those two aforementioned bosses, but I sometimes lose a few 100k people doing it.
(2008) [Nukie] Nicely done game. Quite brilliant in it's graphics and simplicity. Nicely addicting, challenging and fun! Any plans for sound in the future?
(2008) [John] Nukie: I do plan to have at least some sound in the future - I'm less enthusiastic about music, though. It's definitely on my TODO list. :)
(2008) [John] Nukie: would you mind reviewing my game with that text? I just love getting positive feedback, but it would give me more than just a warm fuzzy feeling if you told the rest of the world what you think of my game. :)
(2008) [Tyler Tschida] I am a writer for a small community game site and I was wondering if you are able to send out review copies of your game. I was unable to find any contact information on your site or the App Store. If you are interested please get in touch, thanks.
(2008) [Bret] Let me first and foremost say that this is now one of my all-time favorite games on the iPhone. While it lacks in any sound or sound effects the gameplay is very hands on and the random levels are challenging and leave you wanting to go back and replay it more and more. Suggestions for future updates: - Main Menu (ft. Play, Resume, High Scores, Settings, Help, Exit) - Sound / Sound Effects (but still allow the user to control these in a settings panel so they can listen to their own music) - High Score (show both local and global leaderboard) - Help (listing of the types of enemies, and listing of powerups) - Add powerups (multiple guns, explosive charges, lasers, seek-n-destroy missiles, planetary pulse, planet life boost, allied ships providing support) - Alternate Modes of Play (ex. Timed Challenge... complete a mission in an alloted time) - Challenge friends directly or at least offer and "email a friend a challenge" - Look and Feel (the blue and red of the game is great, but you need to have a tighter adherence to the style in the pause button and high score screens) Keep up the great work and looking forward to seeing how this app develops out!
(2008) [jonathanjk] hi I don't want to keep starting on level one, please can we have the option of starting levels we've already finished please.
(2008) [Simon] Looking forward to a future update with some sound....
(2008) [John] Sound is coming in version 1.2. :)
(2008) [Ben] absolutely loving this game, just one small problem, its often hard and plain silly looking to keep flipping your phone around in crowded areas such as the bus, would there be any plans to add an option to use touch controls as well?
(2008) [John] It's a simple feature, I'll add it to the list. Actually, the code is there for it, I just don't have a UI there to enable/disable it - and orignally I thought that adding touch controls would compromise the integrity of the game, (like the fact that you wouldn't need to flip the screen around anymore), but as long as I make it an *option*, and keep acceleration enabled by default, I think it should be an okay addition to the game. Thanks again for your feedback. :)
(2008) [Andrew] Love the game awaiting the new update! have any ideas on a release date? also have you thought about using different colors for the aliens? and what about a something like population growth
(2008) [John] @andrew - no idea for release date on the update, but probably not too much later than February. And the game "Blue Defense" is about the struggle for power over the surface of a blue-controlled planet by the red forces - there are no plans to bring in other colors of enemies for this game. Green might show up in future games, though. ;)
(2009) [RJH-22] I left a review on iTunes ... "This game is quite the "bang for the buck". I have had great fun playing it. It's has an "old school" feel with contemporary graphics. I read your blog, and if you are going to create a UI that lets us turn on/off settings, I would like to recommend that you include a page that describes the different type of enemies and how to best defeat them. I look forward to your next update."
(2009) [guy] pleeeeaase put some sound into this awesome game
(2009) [John] Sound is coming in the next update, which will be pretty soon. :)
(2009) [f e a r l e s s] Very nice update! Thanks!
(2009) [Richard] The game freezes up and requires an iphone reboot every so often. Is this a known problem?
(2009) [John] I know about the problem, but I can't seem to figure it out. If you know any Devs that think they've figured it out, please let me know. :)
(2009) [Thomas] Could you include an option to calibrate the accelerometer? If I hold my iPod straight up the gun shoots off to the left by several degrees.
(2009) [Mark] Hey, You sure the global highscores is working? How did someone get to level 655!
(2009) [Monk] Thanks for the cool game. How about an option to change the tilt so when I tilt clock-wise, the shooting goes left. Thanks! I just got Blue Attack too.
(2009) [Richard] High scores don't seem to be updating since 11/19.
(2009) [John] The high scores server was down for a while - it *just* got put back up, but we haven't put the old high scores back in the database yet! So, if you play now, you can get a high score really easily!
(04/25) [tyler z] where is the lite version !!!!!!!!!!!!
