(2009) [kats] did you put in easter eggs? you should!
(2009) [John] maybe... but maybe they'll only activate on Easter...
(2009) [Jen] What's your algorithm for figuring out when Easter is?
(2009) [John] A community poll...?
(2009) [Jeff Scott] John -- would love it if you could contact me -- can't find an email address for you. Jeff Scott (EMAIL CENSORED). Would love to feature this new game on our site. Blue Defense was one of our favorite games and a nominee for the 2008 Best App Ever awards. Cheers!
(2009) [caeious] Hey John. Blue Attack looks absolutely amazing. I really love the design and how everything looks light powered (glowing). I am a music producer and have always wanted to do a game soundtrack. I am also a conceptual designer/artist. I was wondering if you would be interested in collaborating on a game? It could be a full on collaboration where we send ideas (music loops and art) back and forth or maybe something where the responsibilities are divided up. Maybe I could do the sound track and you could do the rest. Whatever you feel comfortable with of course. You can listen to 2 tracks of mine here. http://www.myspace.com/caeious Well please let me know when you can. I will come back to this post periodically to find your response. Take care and great job!
(2009) [John] Sorry Caeious, I'm trying to keep things simple right now, I'm mostly working by myself, and the one guy who did help out with music lives basically down the street from me! I'll definitely keep you on my list, though - I've got a list of contacts that I'm keeping for future reference, if I ever need people to help me on projects. You can leave your email here (I'll delete it as soon as I get it due to spambots), or you can privately message me on facebook. Thanks for showing interest in my work! Your music's kind of smooth and trippy, I like it. :)
(2009) [Niels K.] Great looking game but I miss that I can't listen to my own music when playing it. But I have some improvement requests: 1) Could you add an option that when I start the game that it detects that I am already listening to my music and therefore let it play on (like many other games do). 2) Let me rotate the screen. On the iPhone the headjack is on the lower left when playing the game and with any other game that doesn't let me rotate the display it's rather annoying. When rotating the display of the game the headphone jack would be on the upper right which is far more comfortable (maybe add it to the options and ask in addition for it when the game is started the first time). 3) Can you add a way for making it easier to stand still or is that one of the concepts of the game (making it hard to stand still and motivate constant movement)?
(2009) [John] @Niels: Sorry about the music thing - it's coming in an update soon. (1) is a simple fix! (2) I can add that to my TODO list. (3) standing still in this game would almost be like cheating! The main options for you would be the Strafe or Reverse upgrades. They are especially useful, because they allow you to shoot in a different direction from your movement.
(2009) [Niels K.] 1) Great :) 2) Cool :) 3) Ok - so it's in the concept, that's ok, too :)
(2009) [Niels K.] To the music - I like the music of Blue Attack. It's fitting and I guess that it would work as mp3 for "normal" music listening or just running it in the background, too (I wonder why not more developers release the used music of their games under CC with donation-option or in some way to buy it). But while commuting where I play most I like listening to podcasts while playing games :)
(2009) [John] You can disable game audio in the options screen, and then you can still play your own music.
(2009) [iPim] Hi John, Can you contact me on [EMAIL_CENSORED]. We would like to review the game on www.iphonic.be
(2009) [Your 1st Fanboy] will you offer a discount on this app ?
(2009) [John] @fanboy probably not - but I don't have this PR and marketing thing down yet! I'll come up with a strategy if I ever do something like that - and I'll make sure to send my news to game sites, so you'll know if/when anything is happening to my App. :)
(2009) [Lloyd Hannesson] Hey John, I've been trying to find you contact info to email you, but I'll just email you here :) I'd love to review your game on a future episode of the Touch of Gaming podcast. Could you email me? [EMAIL_CENSORED] Great job on this new release! Lloyd Hannesson nukoda.com / touchofgaming.com
(2009) [Ramon Stokes] Hey John GREAT GAME!! If I might make a humble suggestion...is there anyway to make the background behind the weapon buttons just a semi-transparent...it would fit with the rest of the game and make your clean interface even cleaner! thoughts? :)
(2009) [Ramon Stokes] * a semi-transparent bar
(2009) [John] you know, I was thinking about that the other day. I'll experiment with it, and see what I come up with. :)
(2009) [ben] fantastic game, though having beat the game many times on easy, i havent' figured out how to get to the medium and hard planets
(2009) [john] You need to beat the levels in a certain time limit. The first level needs to be beaten in 72 seconds! Use more bombs if you're having trouble getting through quickly. :)
(2009) [Ramon Stokes] Thanks John! it would give the widescreen feel it deserves! Great stuff you have here!
(2009) [Kyle] Can't get it to get past the load screen. I've reset my iPod Touch, redownloaded the game and still nothing.
(2009) [John] Sorry, Kyle - there's a bug that is caused by bad data being returned by the high scores request function. It affects only a few people. I've already submitted an update to apple, but for now it should be okay if you turn off your wifi. Sorry for any inconvenience.
(2009) [Jason Bonner] Hi and and I hope you had a GREAT weekend!! Can I pleeeeease have a promo code for Blue Attack??? :-)))))))thanks in any case and it really looks like a great app....ps I'll leave you a 5star review on itunes cuz I'm sure I'll love it and post my gameplay review on a website...please let me know...thanks! :-)Jason mets1233@yahoo.com
(2009) [John] Jason - I'm actually running out of promo codes right now, I didn't realize that my game would be so popular! Maybe check back when an update comes out? I think my stock of promo codes gets refilled when I update.
(2009) [TMA] Hi John, Can you promo my blog with a promo code or two? Would love to review Blue Attack! Email: info[at]touchmyapps.com Website: touchmyapps.com Thanks!
(2009) [B dog] Great game and concept. It is way better than blue defence. Another sequal please. I am a game designer and I wanted to know what system do you use to make i pod games because i want to make an ipod game
(2009) [John] Well, I just wrote Blue Defense from scratch in C++ (it's the language I know), on top of a very thin layer of Objective C (I just learned the minimum of what I needed to know!). Basically, I bought a mac, bought an iPhone, and opened up XCode. I don't have a "system" other than that, but I did make Blue Attack on top of Blue Defense's graphics and physics code. Sorry that I'm not of much help there! :p
(2009) [B dog] Thanks it helped. Please make more levels
(2009) [Khayman] How do you choose a harder path i the game? i just cant seem to be able to do that?
(2009) [John] You need to beat the levels in a certain amount of time - the goal at the top, in the level select screen, tells you how much time you have for a given level.
(2009) [Khayman] Ohh thats really hard!!!
(2009) [Adam Milecki] Hello, I'm Adam Milecki (aka TideGear), a writer for Tech-Gaming.com. We are primarily a game review site and have recently begun doing iPhone game reviews. Would it be possible for you to send me download codes for Blue Attack and Defense? I recently found out about them and they look very interesting. The reviews would be up on our site within a week or so. Please contact me as soon as possible at [EMAIL_CENSORED]! Thanks for your time, regardless.
(2009) [iPhone_Reviews] Hello John I have recently started up a reviews site for iPhone Apps, http://ifonereviews.blogspot.com and have 170+ followers on Twitter, http://www.twitter.com/iPhone_Reviews after 15 days who check in to see reviews. We currently have 50 applications from different developers waiting to get a review already I was wondering if you would like your game reviewed by us, to get some knowledge of your game out there and exposure through some of the iPhone gamers. I understand if you don't want to. Thanks for taking the time to read my email Thanks, iPhone_Reviews
(2009) [Your 1st Fanboy] John i asked just to be sure because i'm kind of pissed of by paying a price for something and 2 days after it become free ... Anyway your game is just amazing, best on AppStore ( yes i've tried everything) Give us more level ? New evil red design ? Fighting against the Red Death Star ? Another Game soon ?
(2009) [Your 1st Fanboy] And John you don't have to give your game to people beacause they got a blog...with or without them your game will have a huge sucess. Ready to be a Millionar ?
(2009) [Ragashingo] I just downloaded the update and it quits after tapping it. Maybe the iPod update released today killed it?
(2009) [John] uninstall/reinstall. It ought to work. :)
(2009) [Df5] Great game. I am having trouble with it not remembering the controls layout between levels though.
(2009) [David P] Absolutely love the game John - by far the best of my 25+ iphone games so far. Just hit 4.7 million on infinite and it got to a point where I just couldn't down the red guys fast enough at max upgrades plus spamming bombs on every cooldown - had lotsa fun trying though. Keep up the great work =)
(2009) [Thomas Lund] I am having startup issues with the latest update. It crashes a lot after tapping on the main menu (not the iPhone menu, but the blue attack menu). Even after rebooting the phone. Sometimes it starts, but mostly it simply crashes back to desktop. The previous version worked like a charm (pre latest update)
(2009) [Alex] The game locks up after the main screen. This started happenning after the latest iPhone update. I have restored the iPhone to no avail. I have also tried to shutdown and restart the iPhone. My iphone is running software version 2.2.1 and is a 1st gen 8gb model. Hope this helps. Also noticed other people with this issue.
(2009) [Svol] cant go thru the main screen, it sends me back to the desktop........ need update*wink*wink*wink
(2009) [John] For crashing: you have two options. (1) uninstall/reinstall, or (2) wait till the end of next week for the 1.1 update to be approved. That update will fix the savestate bug in 1.0.1... Buy because it's a savestate bug, and the savestate won't go away until you uninstall/reinstall, that's your other option.
(2009) [dahled] aargh... first - love the game!! LOVE it! but after the recent update it keeps booting me out, back to the desktop - even after powering off and on. I'd reinstall it but I don't see it in my iTunes - I'd rather not have to rebuy it.
(2009) [John] Don't worry about that - even if in iTunes it says it will cost a dollar amount to download, after you click on it, it'll double-check to see if you've bought it, then tell you that you cab download it for free. That's how it works on the iPhone app store, anyway. Don't let it scare you off... :(
(2009) [daren] I like to have a promo code for blue attack! so i can help leave a review for u in itunes. my email is EMAIL_CENSORED
(2009) [Mitch] When I do campaign, I can only go through 3 or 4 levels when I see like 7 or 8. It says select next level, but u can only select the bottomest line of levels. Email: mitchag191@yahoo.com
(2009) [NedH] I would love to get a promo code for this game and make a review on itunes. my email is EMAIL_CENSORED
(2009) [JohnQ] I was wondering whats coming in the next update?
(2009) [Appreviewer] Hey, if you'd like your app reviewed, please send a promo code (Or two, as I do occasional app giveaways) to this email address: EMAIL_CENSORED Thanks! My site can be found here: http://theappreviewer.blogspot.com/
(2009) [Zurie] the tilt controls are the best between tilt and touch but the touch controls are what I would prefer to use, if they were more up to par! please check out "DROPSHIP" for a wonderful way to implement controls. or potentially you could check out "crystal quest" for an alternative method to control your ship. the current point to fly in that direction and point to slow your ship controls are fairly lacking.. I want to be able to accelerate and decelerate on the fly (something you can do with tilt, but is very difficult to do with touch).
(2009) [gootch12] Hi John, I believe the daily global leaderboards, both infinite and for sure campaign, are not updating right now. Wanted to let you know.
(2009) [John] Thanks for the heads up! The scores list has been fixed. :)
(2009) [gootch12] Thanks for the quick fix!
(2009) [roy] I think you are on to something big with this and Blue Defense. I am however having a little trouble with the (very tight) sensitivity with the movement. Will there be an update for adjusting the tilt sensitivity? Very good concept, very good design, very good game!
(2009) [John] I'm very happy to inform you that Blue Attack already has a sensitivity adjustment screen! I'm sorry if it's a few too many menu-clicks away from the action. Just go to "Options -> Ship Control Settings -> Calibrate Accelerometer". The last option is on the right side of the screen, under the big "Tilt" title. I hope this helps you!
(2009) [gootch12] Hi John and Everyone, Anybody catching this epic (imho) battle for the top of the global scores list in campaign?!? Good stuff. Both toshi@jp and I (gootch) have broken through 1.5 mil, and I am currently trailing him by 700(!) points. I'm gonna get there! Anybody else want to take the challange?! We are having A LOT OF FUN!! :)
(2009) [nameanyone] John, am I the only one having this problem - I find flying "downhill" counter-intuitive. In Defence, the fire is directed up. I want to do the same in Attack - fire (and fly) up, not down. Please add an option to switch the direction of tilt control. Thanks.
(02/27) [payday loans toronto] I want to thank the blogger very much not only for this post but also for his all previous efforts. I found sprite.digitalseraph.net to be extremely interesting. I will be coming back to sprite.digitalseraph.net for more information.
