Picture: Engagement

Jen and I are engaged!

Okay, okay, so this picture isn't from the day I asked her to marry me... but hey, it's a lovely picture of us, don't you think?

I proposed about a month and a half after this picture was taken, on November 29th. We had a long day of Christmas shopping that day, and Jen joked about discount engagement rings when we passed by the jewelery store (I resisted going inside, after some joking around). After shopping, there was just barely enough time to get in a good walk before the sun went down. We headed up to RIM Park, and walked along the Grand River - our goal was to be back before the sun set, so we wouldn't be walking in the dark.

After an hour or so, we were making our way back, and saw a nice spot on the side of the river to look at the sunset. Jen's legs were tired, and she wanted to sit down, but everything was covered in wet snow, and that would have been unpleasant...

So I got down on one knee, and offered it as a place to sit!

Jen was completely oblivious at this point, and was musing about the position of the sun and how it had shifted slightly to the right, and what it might do in different seasons in different parts of the Earth...

I was interested, but needless to say I was a tad overwhelmed... how are you supposed to set the stage for asking someone to marry you? What can I say to logically transition to "popping the question"?

I decided that I should look into her eyes, and catch her attention... then, in that brief pause, I moved in to give her a light kiss, then another, and another...

mostly, I was stalling in order to awkwardly get the ring out! But when I moved away, and she opened her eyes, there was a beautiful engagement ring there for her. I told her that I would love her forever and always, and she accepted my proposal. :)

Later, she allowed me to get back up off of my knee, which was by that point very wet and in a fair amount of pain...

And now I am engaged to be wed to a beautiful woman, one who I will love and cherish for the rest of my days.

I love you, Jen. :)
